Horseback riding yoga Abruzzo Italy — this horseback riding yoga Abruzzo Italy retreat is one of Italy’s most unique and authentic wellness escapes. Hosted by Italy Farm Stay — also known as Yoga Farm Italy — this 4-day retreat combines daily yoga classes with a guided horseback riding tour through one of the most spectacular valleys in Central Italy, all set on a working organic farm at the edge of the Abruzzo National Park in Pescosolido. With 201 reviews and a welcoming international community, this is a retreat that has stood the test of time.

A Unique Farm-Life Yoga Experience

Unlike resort-based retreats, this is a genuinely immersive experience rooted in farm life, slow living, and nature connection. Guests are invited to explore the farm freely — picking fresh fruit from the trees, spending time with the animals, hiking the forest trails, and sharing meals cooked with ingredients grown on the land. Whether you come for a few days or longer, the open-format structure allows you to settle in at your own pace and truly unwind in one of the most undervisited and beautiful corners of Italy.

The Horseback Riding Experience

Included in the retreat price is a 1-hour horseback riding tour through the surrounding Abruzzi landscape. You will ride along a beautiful river, pass a 13th-century church ruin, and take in sweeping views of an old castle and the valley below. The horses are friendly, well-kept, and suitable for complete beginners as well as more experienced riders. The tour is hosted by a nearby ranch approximately 20 minutes from the farm and is subject to weather conditions — in case of bad weather, a replacement activity such as a cooking class, Reiki treatment, or visit to the cheese-making shepherd is offered.

Yoga at Italy Farm Stay

Yoga classes take place on a beautiful outdoor platform set in the woods, creating a naturally peaceful and atmospheric space for practice. Classes are led by experienced instructors Antonello Siragusa and Ana Ichim, and are suitable for a wide range of experience levels from beginner to intermediate. Alongside the three included classes, optional activities such as Reiki healing sessions and additional yoga workshops are available for those who wish to go deeper.

About the Instructors

Antonello Siragusa is the founder and host of Italy Farm Stay. He completed his 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training in 2017 after years as a dedicated yoga student, having discovered yoga while travelling through India. He teaches asana, pranayama, meditation, and yoga philosophy, and considers teaching yoga one of his most important spiritual practices.

Ana Ichim is a certified yoga teacher with three qualifications, including a 300-hour initiation in traditional Tantra within the Sharab Yog lineage in India. She has trained across the US, Europe, and Asia, and is also a Reiki practitioner and teacher offering healing sessions and attunements.

Farm Food and Organic Meals

Meals at Italy Farm Stay are a true highlight of the experience. Breakfast (9:30–10:30am) is a simple, nourishing spread of coffee, tea, jam, freshly baked bread, porridge, eggs, and seasonal organic farm produce. Dinner is a communal affair, typically featuring handmade pasta (often made fresh that day), seasonal vegetables, salad, local cheese, potatoes, eggs from the farm, and homemade wine. All farm ingredients are strictly organic, and non-vegetarian meals are available on request. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free options are all accommodated.

One of the most special features of the farm is the abundance of fresh organic fruit freely available to all guests — figs, plums, peaches, cherries, persimmons, apples, pears, grapes, apricots, berries, pomegranate, and nuts, depending on the season. Eating ripe fruit directly from the trees is, as the hosts say, an indescribable pleasure.

Accommodation Options

Accommodation is offered in beautifully restored stone rooms with terracotta tile floors, hand-painted walls featuring trees and wildlife, wood furniture with hand-carved details, and new, comfortable beds. All rooms feature limestone walls that keep them naturally cool in summer, with fans for hot days and heating units in cooler months. Room types range from shared dormitories to private single and double rooms and a spacious studio with kitchenette.

Camping on the farm is also available for those on a tighter budget, with tent pitches set amongst fruit trees and with access to a shared indoor bathroom with hot shower. Tents, sleeping bags, and mats can be rented for a small fee.

Optional Activities

Beyond the included yoga classes and horseback ride, a wealth of optional activities can be added to your stay, including: a waterfall hike along the Valley of San Pietro in the Abruzzi National Park (€22), paragliding over the Cassino valley (€150), a traditional Italian pasta cooking class using farm ingredients (€35), a visit to the local cheese-making shepherd to learn pecorino and ricotta production (€19), a trip to nearby Lake Posta Fibreno (€22), a permaculture class (€15), and a range of spa treatments including traditional Thai massage, Swedish massage, and Reiki healing (from €60).

Location and Getting There

The farm is located in the small village of Pescosolido, at the foot of the Abruzzi National Park — a region of mountains, waterfalls, hiking trails, lakes, and fascinating historical ruins that is refreshingly free from mass tourism. The nearby town of Sora (about 40 minutes’ walk or 10 minutes by car) offers restaurants, shops, and a lively main street. Rome is approximately 2 hours by bus or car; Naples is approximately 2 hours. Italy Farm Stay offers pickup from Sora station.
